Out and About in the DigiWorld

Congrats to Shelle and Jan on the opening of DigiScrapTemplates. Congrats as well to Scrap With Templates on their debut.

Wordie backgrounds, overlays and and elements are popping up all over. Create your own at Wordle. You can put in a url and get a word cloud based on text at a site. I put in my blog and came up with this.

The LilyPad is having a Back to School Sale; 50% off retiring products and 30% off everything else. Scrappers of young boys should check out Bottom of the Toybox by Karah, Jenna and Jacque.

A mix of layouts, I've marked for inspiration.

Rewind Time by my3hens - Sarah used a lot of elements on this page while still achieving a clean, eye-catching look and a photo that stays center-stage.

Love Summer by EliG - So many layouts these days use tiny photos. I went looking for pages with larger photos and came across this beauty.

Pied Piper by pixiedust - The photo treatment here is beautiful. Click on the layout to see it in the gallery with credits and you'll see she's used a combination of overlays and lightroom presets to achieve this look. The circle do double duty, providing visual interest and drawing attention to the girl among the gulls. I like the subtle titlework on the photo and the beautiful script journaling. Simply gorgeous.

September Computer Desktops
Here are a set of desktops created by Jennilyn. The kit used to make these will be released at the Sweet Shoppe on 9/6.

Oops

Thanks for those who corrected me on the boy quote from yesterday's frame. I've seen this quote so many times and always read it 'nose'. I suppose the noses of little boys are usually dirty, but the noise version is definitely better. Here is a corrected version.

New Release - Prince Mud Puddle

We just returned from our churches Family Camp. I was a bit worried about camping with young kids, particularly Mya only 8 months old, but it went really well. We stayed in a yurt. I've decided we will be yurt camping every summer until our kids are old enough to carry their own stuff and pitch their own tents. Here's a photo.

The yurt has electricity, a light and a heater - not really roughing it, but still fun. Here is Mya exploring the inside.

Prince Mud Puddle was released at SSD on Saturday. I didn't really plan it out this way, but it will probably work for some of our camping photos.

Here are a few layouts from team members

New Release - Autumn in the Air

I love late summer/early fall and am enjoyed working with this color palette in Autumn in the Air which combines the browns of autumn with splashes of burgandy and salmon.

Here are a few layouts from my creative team using Autumn in the Air.

Out and About in the Digiworld

I'm back with a brand new computer. Here's the Out and About column with some family photos and my latest products thrown in since I wasn't able to post over the weekend.

My product picks for this week are Danielle's Photo Overlays 1 and 2 at Catscrap.

Here's one in action on a photo of Mya who isn't quite crawling, but is proud of her ability to get up on all fours.

I love the look of these Painted Whimsy Papers from Donna Downey at Polka Dot Potato.

Regular reader know I'm a fan of SSD's cookie challenge. Here is my page with this week's cookie. Special thanks to Holli Dunn Photography for the fabulous photo of my little girl.

Scrapbook-Bytes is having a sale this weekend. Details are available in their downloadable PDF.

LilCameronsmommy put her scrap supplies to use making lunch box notes for her school bound boy. Jamin can't read and will only be at preschool in the morning, but I want to make him some of these anyway.

Of course with Jamin starting preschool, I am getting ready digi-style with my latest release, ABC & 123.

Here is a page using it by CT member, Sheri.

If you are looking to scrap your school photos quickly, there is a two-page quick page set with four title options included.

Internet Issues

I know it seems like I've dropped off the planet, we've been having internet troubles and have finally figured out our network card went bad. The good news is rather than just getting a new networking card, I'm getting a brand new computer and monitor. At any rate, I hope to be back up and posting again the next few days.

Monday Morning Inspiration - Scraplifting Switch-Up

Whenever I am having a hard time getting started on a layout, I usually go to one of my favorite online galleries and choose a page to scraplift. Scraplifting is using someone else's page as inspiration for your own. It usually involves using a similar composition with your own choice of papers and elements. Sometimes scraplifts end up looking very similar to the original and other times the page goes in an entirely different direction.

Today's inspiration is to scraplift a page, but pick one aspect of the page and do something nearly opposite of the original (or alter it substantially). Sample ideas:

- where the original uses square, put circles in your composition
- if the original has one large photo, subdivide the photo space into lots of little photos
- if the original uses muted colors, use ultra bright colors
- if the original has no journaling, use lots of text
- where the original has patterned papers, use solids and vice versa
- take a feminine page and scraplift it for a boyish page (or vice versa)

Here is my take on the inspiration. I started off intending to scraplift Sheri's Thomas the Train.

Her design makes use of bright colors and lots of pattern. I decided to switch it up by using neutral solids. Below is the result. The journaling reads, "Always in search of a playmate, Jamin started 'teaching' Mya how to play as soon as she was old enough to reach out for a toy."

Have a great week!

Quick Page Set and Freebie

We've been out enjoying summer, so there is no new kit this week. I've received some requests to create more quick page products so I put this two-pager in the shop. It comes as 2 12x12 .png quick pages and three pre-made titles each saved separately.

Out and About in the Digiworld - Owls and Actions

Congratulations to Inspiration Lane opening their doors this month. They are offering a free mega kit with any purchase.

The Songbird Avenue August kit, Changes with guest designer Christy Lyle, benefits the National Parkinson Foundation.

The Digi-Dare blog is back in action with a new challenge.

Designer Annick Philibert is a new discovery for me. I like the hand-drawn look and whimsical feel of her Sunny Day kit.

Good multiphoto templates are always in demand and Yin knows how to pack 'em. Check out her blog store for tons of great templates all with samples of the template in action.

Coffee Tea Photography has some great actions available for free. Here is a before and after photo of Mya and her teddy using the Hint of Color action from the B&W set.

Apparently owls are the motif of choice at the moment. Whoooo knew? ;)
